Spring finally feels like it is here and for us we are returning back to the markets we attended regularly last year- Hailsham and Eastbourne. Hailsham Market has new days - it will be on Saturdays apart from the 2nd Saturday in the month when it will be on the Thursday. The times haven't changed and continue to be from 9.30-3pm.
Wednesday 26th March sees the return of Eastbourne Street Market which will be every week from 9.30 until 4pm. There are a range of stalls from smoked fish suppliers, Cheese, fruit and vegetables and bread and pastry and cake stalls alongside other craft stalls.
We have been busy over the winter months making new ranges of marmalades and Jams. I have been making marmalade since I was young watching my mum. Over the years I have developed my own recipe and every year my Mum and I have a 'Marmalade-off' This year I have allowed her recipe to be sold on the market stall and let the people vote which is better- my mothers ; 'Lady Patricia's' or my ' Simply Sozzled'
We have also been clearing and cleaning out the greenhouse ready to start growing chillis, onions, strawberries, beans, courgettes and lots of tomatoes for our Simply Sussex range of chutneys and Jams. The chillis and tomatoes go in to our Ant's anti-fouling chilli jam. The green tomatoes make the Grumpy Gran's green tomato chutney. The lavender flowers make a beautifully fragrant jelly. Blackberry's hanging over our wall make our wonderful fruit packed apple & blackberry jelly.
If you want to submit a recommendation of a product you love that is made in Sussex don't hesitate to get in touch and tell us about it.
All the best
Kate & Graham
